Our Pastor

Kevin Vincent Gresham, Sr. was the only child born to the parents of the late Mr. & Mrs. Jack Gresham. He was born on February 24, 1961, Baltimore, Maryland. His father died when he was at the tender age of fourteen and his mother, a strong God-fearing woman provided a wholesome and spiritual home environment throughout the remainder of his childhood. Educated in Baltimore Public Schools, Bishop Gresham graduated from Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1979 and pursued his undergraduate studies at Morehouse College in Atlanta, Georgia. There he graduated with honors and received his Bachelor of Arts degree. Bishop Gresham later attended Howard University and in 1999 received his Master of Divinity degree. His academic honors were many, including membership in the Iota Phi Theta Fraternity, Strathmore's Who's Who List and Howard University Academic Dean's list.

Bishop Gresham grew up in the Pleasant Hope Baptist Church in Baltimore, Maryland, where he was very active in church ministries including piano for the Sunday School. He entered the preaching ministry on April 18, 1978 and was ordained by the late Reverend Dr. Howard R. Queen when he was 18 years old. Known as the "Happy Glad Preacher", Bishop Gresham is blessed to have had many colleagues who made a significant impact in the shaping and molding of his spiritual growth.

Bishop Gresham was united in holy matrimony to the former Miss Denise Bargar on November 24, 1984. God has blessed this union and they are the proud parents of two handsome sons, Kevin Vincent Gresham, II and Dishon William Gresham.

On April 9, 1989, at the age of 28, Bishop Gresham humbly accepted his call to become senior Pastor of the Greater Saint John Church (GSJ), formerly St. John Free Will Baptist Church, of Upper Marlboro, Maryland. After his installation services on June 4, 1989, Bishop Gresham immediately went to work, winning souls for Christ. The GSJ teaching ministry has grown GREATER under Bishop Gresham's anointed and prophetic leadership. During his 15 year tenure, GSJ has achieved a victorious track record of success, including: 1) tremendous growth in discipleship, from 135 to over 2,000 disciples; 2) addition of two Sunday Worship services to accommodate the increased discipleship; 3) increased spiritual growth and participation amongst disciples as indicated through the ordination of many Deacons, Deaconesses, and Associate Ministers; 4) hiring of a full time administrative staff; and 5) organization of a "Super Sunday" worship service and picnic (in the park) that attracted over 2,000 participants.

Bishop Gresham remains steadfast in his faith to win souls for Christ. By doing the Will of God, he continues to receive favor from God which has paved the way for him to spearhead the effort for construction of Greater Saint John's new 32,000 square feet Church and sanctuary that will include 1,500+ theater-style seating.

Bishop Gresham is in his 25th year of celebrating God's work. More than the honors and degrees which have been bestowed upon him, Bishop Gresham is proud that he OBEYED THE CALL OF GOD ON HIS LIFE.
